Catching Neowise by Aaron Rashid

Joshua Tree National Park, California.

2020 was a year full of unexpected events. One of those events was getting to witness the comet NEOWISE fly past earth on its way back into space for another 300,000 years. I decided to venture out to Joshua Tree for the night to take some photos of it while I could. It was my first time trying to take photos of something in space with a telephoto lens - none of which came out how I would've liked. After experimenting with the big lens I put on my go-to astro lens, found this composition, and ended up capturing this photo which won a runner up award in an astro photography competition.

About the Artist

Aaron is a landscape photographer whose work reflects a deep love for wild places and public lands. Born and raised in Estes Park, Colorado - known as the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park - the outdoors are his second home. Inspired by the quiet beauty of nature and the shifting play of light, he captures moments that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and feel connected to the world beyond their everyday.
